Welcome to Sarasota Crew

We hope everyone has had a great summer. There has been a lot going on down at the rowing site. We need to acknowledge our Sarasota Rowers who worked so hard in preparation for Nationals. Well done all!!! With a record number of first time rowers and experienced rowers taking advantage of our camps and clinics, it was a very busy time following the our return from Nationals.   And it was great to see some of our Alumni training and coaching with us this summer.

Thank you to all who assisted with our summer program. With your commitment to rowing and your passion for Sarasota Crew, you made our camps and clinics a great success. We also had a great showing at Club Nationals. What’s more, several of our athletes raced with different teams as a result of their participation in development and selection camps.

Hopefully most of you know by now, we will be adding two new coaches to our program. We are absolutely thrilled to have Marty Beyer and Skye Elliot joining our team. It is without reservation that I say we have the finest junior rowing program coaching team in the Southeast if not the entire East coast. Please welcome Marty and Skye…

We are starting earlier this fall in effort to get the equipment and our rowers in shape quickly. The fall regattas will be coming quickly.   We have also changed our fall rowing schedule. Our Freshman/Novice will be rowing: Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, while our varsity, will have Wed’s off. We hope this schedule will allow athletes to plan their schedules more effectively and miss fewer practices.

While there has been lots of positive energy and excitement at Sarasota Crew this summer, it was with deep sadness we learned of the passing of Steve LeBlanc. Steve had assisted us with our photography and prior to the onset of his illness had many exciting plans for helping us. Steve was a passionate supporter of youth activities in Sarasota. Our community will miss him. Please keep the LeBlanc family in your thoughts.

Casey has worked hard to make registration easier this year with online signup. We hope you find this convenient and helpful. Please plan to register by the end of the day on August 14th to save $50 on your application and get a free T-shirt. Come by our open house on Sunday August 15th to get your free T-shirt for early sign up.

Liza has been enjoying some cooler mornings while coaching at Craftsberry this summer. Who would have thought we would have been so luck to have had Susan Konecny take on the interim roll of team administrator. Susan well done thank you!

We look forward to a great fall and please invite your friend to come down and try rowing us.

Sincerely,
John Leeming, President Sarasota Crew
