Freshmen vs. Novice vs Varsity: For the Fall Season (Aug-Dec) we offer a novice program to all who are new to rowing on a competitive team. This includes anyone in grades 8-12. Anyone who has rowed a spring season on a competitive high school team, rows with our varsity squad for our fall season (if you have questions of where you fit, please ask). In January, for our Spring Season, we shift to a Freshman squad and a Varsity squad. Our Frosh squads (boys and girls) have 8th and 9th graders on them and our Varsity are 10-12th graders. After State Championships there is some shifting around as we finalize boats for Regionals and Nationals. So if you are a new rower in the 10th grade, you would start with our novice squad in August and shift to our varisty squad in January. If you join in January, we would get you worked into the varsity squad as quickly as possible.

8th Grade Athletes
8th-grade athletes interested in rowing on the Freshman Novice Team can start the Fall Session with the Freshman Novice squad. Athletes and parents must have the understanding that this is a probationary period, and after a meeting in September with the Head Coach, parents, and rower, the most appropriate decision on placement will be made.
