Most embarrassing crew experience?
I spelled my name wrong on the lineup sheet my sophomore year and ever since then everyone calls me Savnah.

Head of the Charles

What will you miss the most?
All the laughs and fun times at practice and regattas, and all of the friendships.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has made me more responsible and made me realize that if you really want something you have to devote yourself to get it. Hard work pays off!!

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was the first race I had ever coxed. I was a freshman and the novice 8+ and I were at the terrifying, Turkey Lake… It was 55 degrees out and pouring, sitting on the water waiting for our race to begin for an hour. Finally, the boats get aligned and we are ready to take off. The ref calls go and BOOM another boat crashes into me… Great first time coxing.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
The most embarrassing experience I have had is when I was a rower fall of freshman year. I was racing in an 8+ for a 5k race at Benderson. I remember this being the longest race of my life and I felt like dying every second of the race, even though I probably wasn’t pulling. It was embarrassing because as we were only a few hundred meters in and our coxswain crashed us into land… I watched as our bow seat jumped out to push off us and the water went up to her knees. I then decided I would help because I was 2 seat and next thing you know; all you could see was my braid on the surface because I had completely gone underwater. The best part, we had to race another 4k to finish, soaking wet.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was Sweep States 2016. I was coxing the 2v and we had a rough season but we brought our A-game! Although we got second, everyone had finally come together to accomplish something great!

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the family we have made the most, the people I spend every day with, hours and hours each week. My friends I have made are family to me and I cannot imagine the next 4 years of my life without them.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me to be a leader and respect others. Most importantly, crew has taught me to not settle for something less, I should always reach for the best.

Most memorable crew experience?
On a day with a red tide, we were doing skill and drill in the basin. I grabbed a deceased fish floating in the water and lobbed it over my shoulder. I then heard a loud yell behind me, followed by Zach Fagiani exclaiming that he was going to punch whoever fit him in the face with a fish. I did eventually get that punch, but it was definitely worth it.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
In freshman year, during seat races, Coach Andy was switching people using the launch. While switching, I misplaced my foot and fell head-first into the water between the launch and the shell. Coming back up, I bumped my head into the underside of the launch. To throw salt in the wound, I got destroyed in my seat race.

Favorite regatta?
Head of the Charles 2016 – It was so fun traveling with all my friends, making some good jokes and life-long memories. We trained so many extra hours and it felt so amazing to see it pay off in all the boats that went.

What will you miss the most?
I’ll miss my friends the most, the people who made even the most painful practices bearable and action-packed my weekends with nights to remember forever.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me the value of dedication and hard work. Every single practice you have to do your best to reap the rewards of your efforts. If you want to win, you need to do more than your competition every single day. Learn to love the erg!

Most memorable crew experience?
In the middle of a 4x4x60 workout everybody suddenly broke out in song, singing the Star-Spangled Banner, and everyone slowly joined in until we had a complete choir.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Pulling out my back a month before the most important race in the season

Favorite regatta?
Back when I was with Scullers, the yearly Head of the Hooch was an amazing experience to go to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and row.

What will you miss the most?
The team members that I have grown with and the family like mentality of the sport.

What Crew taught you?
To appreciate the hard work put in over time that will open doors in the future.

Most memorable crew experience?
Either my Freshman 8+ race at the State Championship in 2014 or my time at Youth Nationals last year in 2016 in the Lightweight 8+. In our Freshman 8+ we had lost all year but we had continually been working hard. At States, we won the race and it was
insane. It was such a close finish that we didn't know if we won or not until the officials told us, and the feeling of that win I will never forget. In our Lightweight 8+ at Nationals last year our boat had become really close friends because we had been training for two months together every day, sometimes twice a day. We had amazing heat race and we were placed 1st overall with our time. We ended up getting 4th Nationally, and I still feel so much pride in our eight and all we accomplished.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
I think my most embarrassing crew experience was the only time I've flipped in a single, and it was off the dock. I got in and tried to fix something on my rigger, completely leaned away from the dock without holding on, and fell right into the water.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta is the Head of the Charles in Boston, specifically HOCR in 2016 this past fall. It's a huge regatta that a crazy amount of teams go to, which creates an amazing atmosphere at the regatta site. There's always a lot of excitement and the whole experience with colder weather, new sights, and rowing on the Charles River is amazing. Usually, we take a smaller amount of people so there's a large camaraderie with the boats. This past year my eight went from being placed 31st to 19th, which was fantastic due to the 85 other boats we were racing.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the people the most. I have made my best friends at crew and it is refreshing to be able to go to a place every day and be with people you love, doing what you love. Crew is a sport where every individual has to work for the people in front of them and behind them, and the respect you gain from your teammates and for your teammates makes is what makes crew incredible.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me the value of hard work and that if you truly put your mind and body towards a goal, you will achieve it. It taught me how to be confident in myself and my teammates and the importance of teamwork in life and sports. I believe that crew has made me a better, more driven person, and I am very thankful to be involved in such a wonderful sport.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was Nationals 2014 in California when I was in the Men’s Varsity four. All we did was race, play Mario Kart in the hotel, and eat rice cakes. It was one of the best times I had at Nationals and it taught me a lot about the next level of racing I would experience.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience was Districts 2012 at Tampa Bypass when I flipped a four (yes, I flipped a four). We were in first about one hundred meters from the finish line and simultaneously, a top nut flew off and bow seat caught a crab. We flipped almost instantly and I came off the water sopping wet, sad, and very embarrassed because no one had ever flipped a four.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was Head of the Charles 2014. I spent the weeks preceding the regatta analyzing the maps of the Charles River and attending countless 5 am practices. When we arrived, we launched with the goal of making the top ten and we ended up finishing in first place. I have no idea how it happened, but I am sure glad it did.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the jokes that all of the varsity guys tell because no matter what kind of day I am having, someone always seems to make me laugh. Also, hearing “Welcome to Moe’s” every Monday, I’ve been going for close to six years so it is going to be a hard tradition to let go of.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me how to be organized, manage my time, and work hard at something I want to accomplish. I have learned so much about my self and my mental limits while on the team and I don’t think I would be the confident person I am now without joining in seventh grade.

Most memorable crew experience?
Losing the Frosh 8 - I even wrote my college essay about it. I still can’t believe we lost.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My Dad dropped me off at the front of Oars for the Novice Regatta on the coldest day of the year in my uni to walk to the site (it is a long walk). This nice woman pulls up and offers me a ride to the crew area. Cold and tired I happily accept; she asked me to hold her cupcakes. She offers me a cupcake but I know better than taking food from a stranger in the car and I explained this to her. Turns out your not supposed to take the ride not just the cupcake. Since that time Mrs. Worthy has been one of my favorite people.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite Regatta of all time— is difficult it is between the Head of the Charles and The Canadian Henley (staying in the prison). Both were great experiences.

What will you miss the most?
The people: the friendships I have developed - Moe’s Monday- Skinny DipFroYo on Wednesdays-boating-beach-Colbalt.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me life is not fair but you keep working and trying. Get faster, work harder, take the good with the bad and enjoy the good days.

Most memorable crew experience?
2014 Freshman 8 - coming from a dead stop in the water to making the podium was incredible, even if we didn’t take first place

Most embarrassing crew experience?

Favorite regatta?
2015 Club Nationals – JR’s Soda Shoppe and the bees, the air conditioned recovery trailer, taking home a gold medal, and of course my freight train of a double with Riley

What will you miss the most?
Besides the near entire language we made up, I’ll definitely miss being with my friends doing something we love for over 20 hours a week

What Crew taught you?
There’s no such thing as free speed

Most memorable crew experience?
Once a pack of dolphins followed Kirby's launch around and performed a jumping show for us. It was really special and I could not have seen it anywhere else.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta so far was OARS but I am excited for regionals.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss my friends and coaches the most. I will also miss the incredible dolphin experiences.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me how to manage my time and persevere. It has also taught me that hard work really can pay off.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was being in the freshman 8 the first time they won states and being in the varsity four the first time we won states in the history of Sarasota Crew.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience ever was 2 years ago a Saturday morning when we were doing a long steady state piece in singles and I was ahead of everyone for the first time ever just cruising boat lengths ahead, and my mom had just told me not wear my sister Oakley’s to practice because she didn’t want anything to happen them. I, of course, disobeyed her and wore them anyways. I was so in the zone rowing next to the 2v when my oar lock came undone and my oar (along with me) flew out of the boat and my sister’s Oakley’s sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Casey came over in the launch laughing and helped me get back in the boat soaked and in tears because I had to break the news to my mom that I wore the glasses to practice and dropped them in the ocean.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was Regionals 2015 in Georgia. The bus ride was longgg but a blast because we made the best of the 12 hour ride and the race course was BEAUTIFUL and surrounded by trees and rock walls.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss having this place to go every day where I knew we were all in the same boat whether it was going be a good day or a bad day. And getting to just be outside getting a good workout in with people that always made me laugh and make the best of a bad situation.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me about time management. Because wow I could not tell you how bad I am at time management. I knew that if I wasn’t at practice on time Saturday morning there would be some bad stuff going down. (The wrath of Kirby). <3

Most memorable crew experience?
Winning the Intrasquad regatta on my birthday and then getting thrown in the water in celebration.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
The time I went to spit in the water and ended up falling off the dock. No one could do anything about if for a few minutes because were laughing too hard. Or the time Erin and I flipped our double. Ten feet from the dock. Two days before regionals.

Favorite regatta?
Sculling States 2015, Erin and I made our way through heats and semifinals, but we were extremely nervous for finals. The race went well and our sprint was better than ever. The buzzers sounded right on top of each other and the officials took forever to call us to the awards dock. We eventually found out they had to review the finish from the video. They ended up not being able to determine third place and we tied for second.

What will you miss the most?
I’ll miss the amazing rows on flat water that remind us all why we do this sport and seeing all the wildlife with Kirby. I’ll also miss seeing and laughing with my closest friends every day

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me to be responsible. I learned how to manage my time and be responsible for the work I put out in every aspect of my life.

Most memorable crew experience?
The freshman 8 at states in 2014. One of the worst “losses” I’ve ever experienced considering we still got third. Even though it stung I learned more through that race than I probably ever would have If we came in first.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Fat Jeremy. If you know, you know.

Favorite regatta?
Canadian Henley in 2015. Spending time with a really great group of guys for two weeks in Canada was very fun. We still talk about it.

What will you miss the most?
The friendships mostly. It’s something really special to have such a close group of friends push you every day on the water, then after practice hang out and laugh with. Also, Moe’s Monday.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me Discipline and determination. I realized every day and every year I could push myself harder and harder. If you have goals you can put in the work and get there and if you want it bad enough you will succeed.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was when I got Coach Casey out in hacky sack

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience was when a lot of people (including coaches) mixed up Logan and me for almost an entire season.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite was the Plant Regatta when a few of my friends and Coach Andy messed around seeing how many people didn’t know how to throw a ball.

What will you miss the most?
The thing I’ll miss the most is having fun during workouts with some of my closest friends.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me how to be more independent and not need help from others.

Most memorable crew experience?
Qualifying the light 4+ for Nationals!

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Shaw Bowman bounding down the pathway to the dock and slipping onto his back.

Favorite regatta?
Nationals with the lightweight 8+4.

What will you miss the most?
The bonding with friends with our demanding practices and exciting regattas. We have formed lifelong friendships through Crew.

What Crew taught you?
The value of “free time” and how to use my time purposefully. Also, my advice to others is that High School is going to be tiring no matter what. So, you might as well be absolutely tired all the time by getting to practice and workout every day!

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was winning at states during my sophomore year with my best friends in my boat. It was an unreal experience and an exciting win for our boat.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience was when I went up to Coach Casey during freshman year and asked where I could find the “bow ball inflator”.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was the Plant Regatta when I spent the entire day with Coach Andy. We were critiquing who could and who couldn’t throw a ball correctly

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the heavy lifts with my friends the most.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me how to be responsible for myself and a team player.

Most memorable crew experience?
HP Camp overall was most memorable. Atomic Hot Sauce at The Lube! The camp days all blur together…eat, row, sleep, eat, row, sleep…but through it all I gained greater technical skills and speed on the water.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Falling asleep on the bus on the way to a race at Club Nationals, then waking up when the driver was back at the hotel – had to have him turn around and go right back so I did not miss my race.

Favorite regatta?
No particular favorite – I enjoyed them all! The excitement of states at Benderson is always fun.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the regattas as well as being around such a great group of people. My team members and coaches are amazing! I will always remember the serenity of rowing on the bay. Being out on the water at practice especially when the waters are calm…there’s nothing like it in the world!

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me to always work hard and persevere. The determination to succeed and push through the pain is a core value I learned from crew, and one which I apply to all areas of life

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Despite the many embarrassing moments I have, one would be at the Plant duel at Benderson in May of 2016. I was bow seat of Lara’s eight and we had to bring the boat up to the side shore to hot seat the boat. Lara asked me to jump out of the boat in order to stop it. I, thinking I was going to land in knee deep water, jumped out of the boat and fell completely underwater. To my surprise, I had found the drop off. I swam back up to the surface to find everyone, including Kirby, laughing at me. I lost a sock and a hair tie, and also got a big bruise on the side of my stomach and left arm from hitting the side of the boat on my down into unknown water. Through her laughter, Lara tried to explain that she had only asked me to put my leg in the water. I still believe she told me to jump out of the boat.

Favorite regatta?
Regionals 2015 in Gainesville Georgia because it was my first regatta out of state.

What will you miss the most?
The last four years of rowing has commanded an intense amount of dedication and commitment. But I leave here with numerous friends and fellowship with my teammates I will never forget.

What Crew taught you?
Sarasota Crew has taught me many things but one of the most important things I have learned is that I am capable of more than I ever thought.

Most memorable crew experience?
Rowing in the 5v at OARS

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Being the last one to sprint in an indian run freshman year and then tripping over a sprinkler, subsequently falling on my face.

I will miss spending countless Moes Mondays with all of my best friends

Crew has taught me that organizing meatheads tends to be a rather challenging issue

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was when I went to my first sculling states as a Sophomore and I was put in the Varsity single as a lightweight, and came a bow deck away from beating Tristan!

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew moment was when I was late to practice by 7 mins and got kicked out of the 1v and had to do an hour piece on the erg in regular clothes.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta is Stetson head race!

What will you miss the most?
I will miss seeing my friends every day but will really miss the super nice equipment we have.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me that you can do anything if you put in the work mentally and physically.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience is when I did HP camp. I remember waking up at five am and being so tired that I would talk about the most random things to my friend Reagan, for example why were penguins wearing tuxedos or why bacon tastes amazing. I remember just the joy and pain I felt showing up to practice debating whether to walk up the path and drive away or bare another row that made me feel successful at the end of it. I remember all the laughs and cries I had during each piece and all he blisters and ibuprofen I went through. I remember the feeling of finally understanding the rowing concept and what rowing really is and what it should look and feel like. I remember becoming a part of a family and loving every moment of it. The most memorable experience was experiencing the world of crew.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience was during the summer of 2016 when I went to Ohio for club nationals during HP camp. It was in the hotel room and I was laughing at Reagan for stubbing her toe or something and I decided to jump on the bed but forgot that there was a ceiling fan and smacked my head super hard. The reminder of that day I wore an ice bag as a helmet and I never doubted karma again.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was districts 2016. It was my first districts regatta and I did not mind the line-up I was in and I got to make some weird t shirts. Every regatta after districts is always fun because it shows us that all the efforts have paid off and the team comes together the most.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the glass water with a vibrant sunset rows the most. I remember in the summer I would row the piece and then row in past the mangroves and looking at sun casting a pink or orange glow across the crystal water. The water would turn metallic with the pink reflecting off and the feeling of amazement and beauty rushing through me as well as accomplishment because glass water usually supplies solid rows.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me the value of teamwork. Coming from an individual sport I never realized that teamwork was an enjoyable thing, but after a while, I built strong relationships and became able to rely on others to help me achieve a common goal.

Most memorable crew experience?
There are countless embarrassing moments for me. Katie Barnett making fun of me for
months after having a huge blond moment in our Facebook group chat. There were also the times when I flipped my single every single trial I did sophomore year and Casey saying to me “that was the best flip I have ever seen”. Usually, it's a good thing to get complimented on how well you are rowing NOT when you flip.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience was last year. My first official year on Varsity and me the little ole sophomore flips her single in front of both the Varsity eights. And instead of getting back into my single I just swam to the dock.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was novice regatta because that is where I became close with my now best friend Katie Scarlett.

What will you miss the most?
The thing I will miss about crew are the experiences it has given me. Before crew I don't think I would be able to say that I have flipped an eight by myself not once but twice. I will miss the friends it has provided me. The girls varsity team can be snappy towards each other, passive aggressive, or we actually work together. Those will be the moments that I miss about the girls team.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me many things. It has taught me how to have eighteen hour school days. From getting up at 4:30 every morning to going to bed around 9:30 to 10:30. It has taught me how not to complain because you have to work for what you want. It has also taught me how to take pride in everything you do from your failures because you can always learn from them to your accomplishments because there is always room for improvement.

Most memorable crew experience?
Walking away from the field with our move at the State championship.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Not knowing how to rig a Filippi

What Crew taught you?
To take full advantage of second chances and be grateful to have fantastic coaches and teammates.

Most memorable crew experience?
The most memorable crew experience was being the first women’s freshman 8 to win states.

 Most embarrassing crew experience?
The most embarrassing crew experience was during Nationals in 2016 I got a spider bite in the airport and the next day, Kirby and Caitlynn had to take me to the urgent care.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was Head of the Charles in 2016 and Nationals in 2016

What will you miss the most?
I will miss all my friends and seeing manatees and dolphins almost every day.

What Crew taught you?
Crew taught me that nothing comes easy and Hard Work Pays Off!
