What will you miss the most?
I will miss the friends that I have made. I will miss Coach Kirby and Monica’s unwavering support over the last 6 years.

What has Crew taught you?
I have learned that everything that you do can prepare you for your future, but only you can steer your course.

Most memorable crew experience?
Rowing the Captains week race with a musty beanie covering my face and we won, pretty cool, right?

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My freshmen year I was erging next to Clark. He got off the erg during his piece, went over to Meg, and said that I was to smelly to erg next to.

What will you miss the most?
The 3v

How to work with people you don’t like.

Most memorable crew experience?
Winning the girls freshman 8 state championships for the first time in Sarasota crew history.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Crying and laying down in the boat to make myself smaller every time a dolphin was near me. (almost everyday)

What will you miss the most?
Kirby

What Crew taught you?
How to get dressed, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, pack a bag and drive to the bus in less than 5 minutes all while wearing polo and khakis.

Most memorable crew experience?
Captains week. Spending the last week of practice before winter break this year, becoming a coach with an undefeated record. That Monday, Travis, Kris and I became coaches and took turns drafting varsity rowers to make three eights full of guys from every skill level on the team. The rest of the week’s practices were different for every boat depending on what the coach thought to be best for his crew. The morning of inter-squad, the three eights raced a 2k which saw Colony Foods Rowing Club win the First Annual Captain’s Cup (Before also winning inter-squad).

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Losing the freshman double to Fabian (then rowing for MRC) after bragging to everyone about our 2ks and joking how it was going to be a blowout.

Favorite regatta?
Nationals 2017. Spending the whole week prior having dinner with the boat. Swimming at the beach Thursday night. Sitting in our unis at UTC between time trials and semis on Friday. Having an extremely mediocre lunch at Olive Garden while it was pouring on Saturday, and then sprinting past two crews to get third in the country on Sunday. I never would have guessed we would be able to medal with only two returners from the year before.

What will you miss the most?
Moe’s Monday, ice bathing, boat dinners, making whirlpools with the boys, the random hard labor tasks we would do around the site. Early morning practices before Charles. Racing within the team in small boats and the trash talk that goes with it. Nov ball, hacky sack, soccer. Beach practices and the dreaded 4x2 mile runs. Mafia. Being the last boat off the water after a good row.

What Crew taught you?
The sport of rowing has taught me Teamwork, time management, what it means to dedicate everything in your life to one goal and how worth it it is when you succeed.

Most memorable crew experience?
Winning states in the Women's Freshman 8+ my 8th grade year for the first time in Sarasota Crew history by .03 seconds.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Having to tell my coaches that I would not be able to row for the next 2 weeks because I slammed my head into my own car door and gave myself a concussion.  I still get made fun of for that.

Favorite regatta?
Head of the Charles.  You get to see the competition not only at a high school level but also at a collegiate and masters level.

What will you miss the most?
I will definitely miss the bonds and friendships that I have created over the past five years.  Can't say I will miss Casey's long meetings after regattas though.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me a variety of things.  It has taught me how to manage my time and also be a better person than you were the day before.  It has taught me to strive for greatness.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable Crew moment would be coaching an incredible group of guys over a course of a week for an event called “captains week.” I picked a team that worked hard and responded well with everything I said. Although we fell short of 1st by less than half a second EVIL Rowing Corporation will forever be in my heart.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing Crew moment would have to be at my second year at Head of the Charles. The day before our mens 8+ race we were having a team meeting. Before things got serious we were making jokes about the course pointing at the course map that Caitlynn had. After a few minutes Caitlynn told us to be serious and focus as we went over the race plan.After a good two minutes into the serious portion of the meeting I did something I really regret. I grabbed the map away from Caitlynn and made a joke that was already said about 10 Times. As soon as I did it everyone yelled “TRAVIS” and I realized what I did was really bad and not funny. I was so embarrassed for the rest of the meeting and still feel it whenever it’s brought up.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta was nationals 2017. What I like most about it is the fact that we didn’t think we were going to do well but ended up getting third. This regatta also sticks with me because in between races we all went to the mall in our unis some of us with no shoes and all sweaty probably smelling really bad. We pulled tables together in the center of the mall and shared a big pan of pasta and chicken. After we ate we all laid down on the couches with our feet up and played games on our phone.

What will you miss the most?
The thing I will miss most about Crew is spending time and having fun with my some of my best friends every day.

What Crew taught you?
Throughout my years at Crew the one thing that I really learned was that Hard work really does pay off and that you can always be better at anything you do.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was getting ready for the OKC Night Sprints on the Choccy Milk river. Everyone was buzzing from monster and glow sticks were everywhere.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
It would have to be missing the bus to a regatta when even my mom managed to get on it.

Favorite regatta?
Either the 2018 FSRA West District Championships or the 2018 Oklahoma Regatta Festival would have to be my favorite.

What will you miss the most?
I’ll miss joking and making memories with my friends. I’ll also miss the coaches.

What Crew taught you?
Six+ days of practice a week taught me time management. Long and grueling practices/workouts taught me work ethic. Having to be up at ungodly hours for regattas taught me dedication.

Most memorable crew experience?
One of the most memorable experiences for me was how the whole team handled preparation before Hurricane Irma. The whole team got together to take down the weight and erg tent, derig all our boats to put in the trailer to go to a warehouse, and put anything and everything we could find that could potentially fly away into the club house and moved everything from the windows. The site looked deserted and the house looked like a storage shed. Most of us were fairly convinced that we would never see the boat racks and club house the same way again with all the flood and storm surge warnings. Our beloved Sarasota was spared when Irma went down to Category 1. We all came back more grateful than ever to see that our team and equipment was unharmed.  I find that since then as a whole, we have become more grateful for the beauty of where we live and train, for our equipment, and for having each other.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
I was sitting alone in the trailer soaking in the sunshine after having had three races painting a mermaid on a wooden clog. I was under the impression that I had finished all my races and was happily painting away when Coach Kirby came up to the side of the trailer, saw me painting the clog, and asked me why I wasn’t in my single. Startled, I looked up at her with paint all over my hands and arms unable to respond because I had a paintbrush in my mouth. Turns out, I completely didn’t see my 4th race on the lineup sheet. I guess I was just too excited to paint my mermaid-shoe that I missed my race. Whoops.

Favorite regatta?
OARS Invitational 2017, Regionals 2017 in Georgia, and Stetson Rendezvous Half Marathon Row 2015 when Coach Monica rowed the 21k with the 4v

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the water days, taking in the beauty of sunsets, rainbows, silhouettes of the palm trees, dolphins (sorry Morgan), and the cute little group of painters that come to Spanish Point to paint the scenery that we get to be a part of every day. The relishing grace of the hull cutting through perfect water with synchronized power in perfect weather is so invigorating that it feels almost poetic. I will never forget the close relationships that I have made with the coaches and unique individuals with whom I’ve spent years perfecting both our stroke and our friendships.

What Crew taught you?
Throughout the six years that I have been rowing, I learned not to be discouraged if I was not in a top boat. In fact, competing in a lower ranked boat offers an opportunity to surpass higher boats, exceeding everyone’s expectations. I firmly believe that novice athlete deserves the same amount of respect as any varsity athlete. I learned over the years that being told that I was a “Novice” or “C boat” or “5V” or “B entry” didn’t mean that I was limited to that level. It was up to me to achieve more than I ever believed that I was capable of. 

I learned to serve as a bridge for beginner rowers, such as my little sister Maeva, offering support and advice on how to improve and set goals. I will never forget my middle school and novice years. I know what it’s like to feel intimidated by older Varsity rowers. The last think I want is for someone to be afraid of me. Once I joined varsity, I was determined to melt any intimidation and false barriers between the different stages and levels of Crew. I want anyone to feel comfortable to talk to me and to be able to come running up to me yelling “Toni!” and give me a big hug.

Most memorable crew experience?
Most memorable experience would be racing the single on states and winning.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Most embarrassing experience, getting called fat by everyone when I weighed 215lb

AYC II

What will you miss the most?
I will miss all of it.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has thought me that whenever you want to do something, if you work hard enough you will accomplish that goal.

 Most memorable crew experience?
The weekend of nationals.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Forgetting equipment before my race.

Favorite regatta?
Regionals 2017, it was a fun road trip with the guys and fun racing.

What will you miss the most?
Hanging out with my teammates on the boat and racing for Sarasota Crew.

What Crew taught you?
Even though you think your current situation is tough, just wait, no matter what day it is, today is just the beginning.  It will continue to get harder.  However, with a great mindset, work ethic, and attitude, you can overcome anything that rowing or life brings your way.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience has to be when we won the Girls’ Freshman 8+ for the first time in Sarasota Crew history. I was in 8th grade and it gave me a first glimpse at how hard these girls push themselves for each other.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing experience would definitely be during my first week on the freshman team. We did c-blocks during a timed decathlon and I fell on my butt right in front of the entire varisty team and Kirby (That was the first time we had ever met). She had Maddux Castle do the rest for me.

Favorite regatta?
Club Nationals 2017 was my favorite regatta because of how small but close our team was. Being one second off of the CanAmMex quad wasn’t too shabby either.

What will you miss the most?
I’m going to miss my two favorite team sisters (hi Bethe and Lauren), but also the great dynamic that comes from building each other into the best people we can dream to be. I can come to these girls for anything.

What Crew taught you?
Being on this team has taught me many skills like time management and working with others, but the most valuable lesson has been that there are only mental blocks between you and your goal, and that anything you strive to work towards is possible.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience was states in the 2v sophomore year.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing crew experience has to be crashing a 2x into the starting dock at Benderson the week of sculling states.

Favorite regatta?
Regionals 2017

What will you miss the most?
I will definitely miss watching the sun set over the water everyday

What has Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me the importance of time management

Most memorable crew experience?
Winning 2nd in the Varsity Women’s 1x at Sculling States, and seeing bioluminescent plankton in my oar puddles while rowing a 4x at night.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
Slamming my 1x into a channel marker during my Sophomore year and nearly starting to cry when I told Casey that I had broken the backstay.

Favorite regatta?
Anything at Benderson, because I always know where I am on the course and the buoys are always clearly visible.

What will you miss the most?
Seeing dolphins and other marine life, rowing on the intercostal, Casey’s jokes, my friends.

What Crew taught you?
Mental toughness, how to better set and achieve goals, and a greater sense of independence, especially when rowing the 1x.

Most memorable crew experience?
One of my most memorable and first crew experiences was on my first day of crew.  I was coming from a different team and I just remember the varsity girls being very nice and inviting. It made transitioning to Sarasota so much easier and less stressful. It was easier to make friends and I loved the team dynamic.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing moment at crew was when I flipped a quad at practice in front of Coach Monica. We were at the catch about to start a piece, and we suddenly began to tilt towards the water. It was a slow, sad flip which made it even worse. When we flipped over, the boat was guts down it took us all about 10 minutes to get back in. While we were trying to get the boat back right-side up, I hit my head on a rigger and thought I was going to drown. Kirby also had to come over in her launch and help us back in the boat along with Monica. When we got on land we were informed that we were the first quad to ever flip on Sarasota Crew...at least we set a record.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta is Intersquad and Regionals.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss making shirts with my boat before states and regionals. It’s always so much fun and it was great time bond with your boat.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me that I can do more than what I originally thought I could as long as I keep striving for greatness. Crew has also taught me great time management skills which will be a tremendous help to me when I go off to college.

Most memorable crew experience?
My most memorable crew experience would have to be my very first day at crew. Coming in my junior year to so many new faces was extremely intimidating. I remember jumping right into practice and trying to act like I knew what was happening when I really had no idea. I am pretty sure the first day I almost passed out doing lunges, I accidentally drank from from someone else’s water bottle (I swear yours looked just like mine, Avery), and my pair partner in the boat had to remind me to pause at the finish of the stroke (thanks Christina). Even though it was such a crazy day, it was the first of many crazy days and I would not have changed any of it.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
My most embarrassing memory is one day I was lunging and went up in weight. There was an event going on at Spanish Point and two valet guys were outside waiting to park cars. As I was lunging, I tripped forward, did a somersault, and landed on my back. All the girls were laughing at my the the two valet guys were looking at me like I was the strangest person ever.

Favorite regatta?
My favorite regatta is the State Championships (I am going to combine sculling and sweeping into one regatta). Racing in our backyard at Benderson is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss the family that Crew has given me. From the teammates to the coaches, I feel like this place has truly become a family to me and will miss everyone next year. Seeing the same people for three hours six days a week forces you to be a family, and through the ups and the downs I always knew that my team was by my side.

What Crew taught you?
Crew has taught me to take anything life throws at me and make it work. An extremely hard workout? It’ll be over sooner than you think. Five races in a day? More chances to medal. Fitting an ungodly amount of riggers into an extremely small trailer? They’ll fit. Crew has taught me that anything is possible, all it takes is hard work and dedication.

Second place at 2017 Head of the Charles

Catching 6 crabs in a row during my first time rowing.

My most memorable crew experience is when my quad was very early to the start of a race so we pulled under a bridge and laid down in the boat for about an hour.

My most embarrassing moment on Crew was when my team lost the captains week race to Travis and Clarks teams.

My favorite regatta was head of the Charles.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss being around all of the great guys everyday

Over the past year on Sarasota Crew and rowing overall for five years I've learned that you've gotta just gotta go with it.

Most memorable crew experience?
Qualifying the Lightweight 4 at Regionals in 2016.

Most embarrassing crew experience?
HP Camp video reviews with me, Riley, Logan Le, and Harrison Epstein rowing a four so poorly that everyone demanded to keep re-watching it. A close second would be a day later, when bowing a pair in the cut, and having Parker Michel yell across the channel “Michael you are the WORST bow in this programs history!”

The comradery, laughter, and banter that fills every day.
